Weekend of 5/26

Verhaeghe ‘Duchesse De Bourgogne’, 6.2% ABV, Sour Red/Flanders. Vichte, West-Vlaanderen Belgium – A classic. It’s vinegary, sour nose will make you think it’ll be a super tart beer but actually the sweetness is more predominant with the sourness levelling things out – a “sweet and sour” beer indeed. Very vinous and refined – a delicious and quite different Flemish sour ale.

Maine Beer Company ‘Zoe’, 7.2% ABV, Amber Ale. Freeport, ME – I love this wholesome brewery and everything they do and if you’ve had their stuff before you know the deal. Starts off with a very fresh and citrusy hop aroma. Solid body, sweet caramel, heavy fruit and massive citrusy hops all through the finish. Mouthfeel is velvety while the finish is surprisingly downplayed. Elegant and nicely drinkable.

Pipeworks ‘X-O Manowar Galactic‘, 6.8% ABV, Golden Ale. Chicago, IL – The Pipeworks crew do no wrong ❤ this is their collaboration with the bad ass comic creators over at Valiant Comics. Through space and time, this was brewed using Galaxy hops and a yeast that lends incredible tropical notes. Nice juicy hop bite, some lemon notes, medium bodied. I thought at first this was named after the metal band Manowar (Hail and Kill!) \m/ but hey, it still rules that it’s after a comic book!

Cloudwater Brew Co. ‘Chinook Vic Secret’, 6.5% ABV, IPA. Manchester, England – Chinook takes the lead in this juicy, hoppy IPA, backed up by Vic Secret and fruity esters from WLP095 yeast. Low bitterness, juicy citrus fruits, some tangerine, melon, peach. Medium bodied with a very well balanced finish, balancing pale bready malts, supremely drinkable.

(Sidenote: Heartbreaking news about what happened at a concert in Manchester this past Monday. All our thoughts are with the victims and families of those who have been affected. )

Westbrook Brewing Co ‘Gose’, 4% ABV, Gose. Mount Pleasant, South Carolina – A traditional German-style sour wheat beer brewed with coriander and salt. Super clean, light sweet flavor with biting tart lemon, salty kick and faint sour wheat. Cleansing finish, crisp, with citric tang, mild jammy lemon and other citrus fruits, hints of sour funk. Very refreshing and a classic! Extremely stoked to have this on draft.
